First I was mad, then I was sad, now I need an interpreter

After putting much thought and effort into my first WebQuest, which hinges on White Island Lighthouse, I posted it Sunday. In the transition, one of the pages came out wrong - a picture jumped over the type and the typeface came out differently. (See the "Task" page at http://djwbohemia.bravehost.com/LighthouseWebQuest/Introduction.html )
I used both the webpage editor's "visual editor" and "text editor" tabs to remedy the situation, but every time I deleted the rogue  picture it stuck like a bug on a windshield. I trolled around for some insight on why this might be happening and found this note:
"Please note, any changes made here will NOT be loaded into the Website Wizard. If you want to edit your pages from here, you'll need to stop using the Wizard to publish, as this would overwrite the File Manager changes."
As a neophyte, I'm not sure what this means, but I think it means I need to make the changes on a Mac. Will try again on another computer and see if I come up with different results, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks.

  1. You got to love it when not only can't you figure out why there is a problem but you can't understand the explanation either. Wait…no, you don't have to love it, or even like it for that matter.

The problem could be the iWeb template, but it could also be the host who is not reading the HTML correctly. In either case, SOMEONE is not being a team player here and I understand your frustration Denise. Believe it or not, when I get stuck like this I'll turn to my students and ask them if they have any ideas because you never know.

    A thought…

When you gain access to your iWeb template, I wonder, if you are unable to delete that pesky picture place holder, could you perhaps drag it up and "hide" it behind the seagull image you have? Just a thought.

  2. I was thinking about you today, Denise, and wondering what ever happened with your WebQuest. You know that I will not be the person to be able to help you technically, but I can lend you my support emotionally!!! You did a wonderful job with it and I do believe that with assistance you will eventually be able to fix it. I hereby volunteer Nick's services to assist you at the end of March in class. :) Mine, too, has not been posted online yet, either, due to the fact that I created it using iWeb '08. I think Holly is still working on mine. Hope it gets resolved, soon...

  3. Thank you both for the moral support. I just spent another hour on it today and nothing worked. I may try to track down Brian and see if he can help me. It's tough to find time with the final to work on the next class about to start. Anyway, I appreciate you guys checking in. I'm bummed we are not going to be meeting twice a class anymore. I get so much out the face-to-face, collaborative time.
